Expired Milk is typically known as a rotten drink, but in South Windsor Connecticut, it’s recognized as a 6-piece band that was created at the beginning of 2024 and has already begun to perform. The band was started by a collection of youth within the South Windsor community, emerging only a few months ago.
This group has shown their resilience, working to perfect each song on their setlist. Once they learn the basics of each song, the band puts their creative spin on it, making it unique and aligning more with their individual music taste.
Expired Milk normally performs songs within the rock and grunge genres. The band takes inspiration from bands like “My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, Weezer, Blink 182, Rush, The White Stripes and many other artists.
The band was founded when Levi Rosa, one of the two guitarists, met Owen Matern, the now lead singer, in his school organization “School of Rock”. Inspired by the 2003 film, this club was founded at Strong Middle School and allows kids to tap into their creative side. It is a welcoming environment that encourages music exploration. In the School of Rock club, the Expired Milk members began playing together and noticed the chemistry they had as a group.
“We were like, ‘We should make a band together,'” Rosa told The Prowl.
With the help of Brendan McManus, a guitar and drum lesson instructor, this group of teenagers was able to make their dream a reality. Currently, McManus helps Expired Milk learn and improve on the songs they aim to perform in the future. He also guides the band towards songs that are within their skill level and interest.
“We just pick some music that we like and then we’re like ‘let’s learn that!’” Nev Gravseth-Roman, a bassist says.
Expired Milk is currently perfecting songs like, Tom Sawyer, Say It Ain’t So, Seven Nation Army, and many others.
The band’s next gig will be at Guitar Center in Manchester Connecticut on October 26th, 2024. Be sure to keep an eye out for Expired Milk, as they will be performing alongside various other groups.
