Mariah Invented Christmas Music

After releasing the hit holiday track in 1994, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is still huge around this time of year. The song has not only received nominations for the World Music Award for World’s Best Song and Best Video, but seemingly countless other musicians have been making covers of the super famous song. Some of these artists include Fifth Harmony, Michael Buble, etc.

“The album, Merry Christmas, and its mother single, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ have been holiday staples ever since–and continue to provide a growing platform for Carey’s flourishing side-career as queen of the holidays,” wrote Deborah Wilker for BillBoard.

It’s crazy how the song has become so legendary considering the fact that Mariah claims she wasn’t very enthusiastic about making a Christmas album so early in her music career. Due to the success of her song, Mariah is still offering to us some of her holiday magic as she will be debuting in a holiday movie, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You. She even has a line of holiday cookies out for the public.

“The crazy thing about it is, every year it tends to increase in popularity,” stated Mariah recently. “I’m very thankful that people still seem to have an attachment to it. It makes me feel good when people tell me it’s part of their lives.”

Her song is now the most downloaded holiday song of all time. Totalling 3.2 million hits, her song is above the rankings of other incredibly popular annuities such as “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Feliz Navidad.” Even after 22 years of the songs release, the original song by Walter Afanasieff and Mariah has landed number 11 on the BillBoard Hot 100 last year!

“Also new for her this season, Carey will take her holiday concerts overseas for the first time with dates in London, Manchester, and Paris.”

The singer has been involved in the music industry for about 25 years and it is rumored that she will continue creating more music in 2018, her Christmas music just another factor in all of her success.

“I feel like this is something small compared to the rest of my catalogue. This song just continues to surprise me.”
