The South Windsor High School girls swim team defeated East Hartford 99-48 at Star Hill in Tolland. SWHS currently holds a record of 3-1 for the season.
The Bobcats started off the meet with the 200 medley relay, where they swept all of the top podium spots shutting out East Hartford in the first event. The first place relay consisted of juniors Audrey Zhang, Grace Zeng, Molly Grohs and sophomore Sarah Lambert.
“…We are doing really well at are swim meets. All the girls are really nice and supportive and we are hoping to make it to states this year!” freshman Brianna Gleason said.
They swam hard finishing two laps ahead of East Hartford. One of their teammates, sophomore Emily Attanello, watched the relay in person.
“It was cool because when they touched the wall to finish you could see the other teams still diving in,” Attanello explained.
The girls had another stand out event which was the 500 freestyle. The 3 swimmers had to swim 20 laps each and sped through the pool continuing to lap the other team giving them a large point advantage.
The swim team has a chant led by the captain, who calls out, ‘Can I get an S Dub?’ The team responds with, ‘S Dub.’ The captain then asks, ‘Can I get a hoorah?’ to which the team replies, ‘Hoorah.’ The chant ends with the group shouting, ‘S Dub hoorah hoo!
When they touch the wall on the other side of the pool, they can see a big group of their teammates cheering them on.
“It feels good to have a supportive team,” Attanello said.
A strong, supportive team makes all the difference, with each member’s effort contributing to the success of the final product.
“The team is awesome and we all support each other and cheer on each other,” freshman Abby Richards said.
