At South Windsor High School, new students are greeted with warm welcomes and smiling faces, thanks to the Bobcat Ambassadors program.
“It’s a great program to welcome new students, and I’m really glad I found out about it,” said Bobcat Ambassador Jane Carty.
Being a new student can be difficult due to the stress of meeting new people, making friends and adjusting to a new environment. Bobcat Ambassadors guide students through their first couple weeks at school, making the transition easier.
“I find it helpful for our new Bobcats to have peers, intentionally, looking out for them and being here for them to ask questions,” SWHS guidance counselor, Mrs. Brown-Quinn, told The Prowl.
Bobcat Ambassadors provide an additional resource for students, allowing them to have someone they feel comfortable sharing with, should they ever need to. It eases students’ minds, knowing a fellow student is looking out for them and has the power to create change when needed.
Students who are interested in becoming a Bobcat Ambassador, may join the google classroom using code: raepmvw.
“Members may be asked to show a new student around the school or take them to classes on the new students’ first week of school,” Brown-Quinn explained.
The club, founded in 2019 by SWHS alumna Christine Pratt, has 27 members. Pratt believed that new students should receive support from their peers. Although Pratt has graduated, her legacy continues through the ongoing support provided to new students.
Recently, the Bobcat Ambassadors held a student breakfast on Wednesday, September 18th, which welcomed new students, grades 9-12, into the South Windsor school district. The breakfast ensured all students had an enjoyable start in a new environment.
Bobcat Ambassadors aim to foster a supportive environment where students help each other adjust to a new school.
