The South Windsor Community Facebook pages were filled with comments regarding information released by the Republican Committee starting on September 18th, 2024.
Fellow Republican South Windsor Town Council members motioned for Mayor Audrey Delnicki to step down from her current position.
Delnicki was asked to resign during the last caucus meeting, due to alleged “lack of leadership, lack of transparency, withholding information and no-confidence vote,” according to a memo from the Town Council on September 18th at 5:00 pm.
Specific information was not provided in the notice administered to the public.
A Town Council Special Meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th, specifically to discuss the removal of Delnicki from her position. However, that meeting was canceled and rescheduled multiple times due to clerical and procedural errors, as mentioned in a letter from the Republican Committee.
The current time and date for the meeting is Friday, September 20th at 6 pm. The first 30 minutes will be devoted to public input on the matter.
South Windsor Facebook users have expressed their concerns regarding Delnicki’s predicament. Some have expressed their admiration for the Republican Party’s attempt to create change. However, the majority feel the issue was approached with a lack of transparency.
The residents of South Windsor have now started an ongoing petition to call off the removal of Mayor Delnicki. There are 104 signatures on the petition, with the current goal being 200 signatures.
Deputy Mayor Matthew Siracusa will assume the role of Mayor if Delnicki steps down.
At 8 pm on September 18th, the South Windsor Republican Town Committee released a notice on Facebook clearing the air on the speculation surrounding the removal of Mayor Delnicki.
Republican Party members do not want Delnicki removed from the town council altogether. They are, however, calling for the removal of Delnicki from her current mayoral position.
During the election for the South Windsor Town Council, the Republican committee campaigned that they would be completely transparent about how they spend the town money, hold themselves and the citizens accountable, hold the town officials accountable for spending and overall operation of the town, and lower taxes.
The committee recognizes they have failed to deliver their promises to the citizens of South Windsor, but hopes to create changes in their operation, to work more effectively and address the needs of South Windsor residents.
As of right now, nothing about the removal has been made official. There will be more information to come on this topic as the story progresses.
