The Badminton Club was created by juniors Ali Omer and his friends, Alex Rho and Thomas Tyminski.
Omer is the president and creator of the Badminton Club. He has been playing badminton for about 4 years now, and he decided to create the club because he saw that there was a very large community of badminton players at South Windsor High School.
Omer works with his friend/Vice President of the Badminton Club, Alex Rho. Rho decided to join Omer in the club to support him because of his own love of the sport and Omer’s good leadership. It is a bonus that Omer and Rho are also good friends and are always there for each other.
Omer’s vision for the club is to try to turn this extracurricular into a team, if possible. And, Rho is on board with the mission responding with a firm “I do.”
The club is advised by Rebecca Correale, a math teacher at SWHS who teaches Algebra ll with Trigonometry, Algebra I and Pre-Algebra, which means she teaches freshmen through juniors.
At the time of the club’s creation, Correale wasn’t advising any other clubs, so she agreed to take on Badminton.
“…And they’re really great people, so I said ‘ok’, let’s do it!” Correale explained.
Correale was willing to jump right in and help out her students because she is someone who truly enjoys being a teacher here at SWHS.
Even though Correale wouldn’t immediately identify herself as a sporty person, she’s ok with playing badminton.
However, during her free time, Correale likes to dance. She’s a dancer and performs with her company in West Hartford.
“We have a lot of fun and I really like working with students; it’s great working teenagers because it keeps me on,” Correale told The Prowl.
The future of the Badminton Club is yet to be determined by Omer, but for now, the club stays a club and maybe one day, Omer’s dream of making a Badminton team at South Windsor High School will come true.
