The Modern Milkman, owned and operated by Oakridge Dairy Farm in Ellington, CT, and founded in 2018, has been delivering dairy products for 6 years. They deliver to a vast number of locations like Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Ohio.
The Milk Man started as a tiny seed of an idea during a random work season, which then turned into four friends driving around Lancashire using nothing but a little black book and a beaten-up old truck.
What started as a dream ended up uniting an entire network of plastic-saving, waste fighting, eco-warriors, who have since saved over 37 million plastic bottles from landfill.
They have numerous products ranging from gluten-free options to Vegetarian options with different flavors every week and over 30 additional products.
Products can be ordered online through its website, where various types of milk are delivered to customers’ doors. There is a subscription that automatically renews every week, and if customers are on vacation, the goods will not be delivered, and they will not have to pay for that week.
The products are delivered to customers’ doors in a bag and should be immediately refrigerated once they arrive. Many customers leave milkman coolers on their doorstep to keep the milk cold. If needed, changes can be made to orders at any time.
“The Modern Milk Man has so much variety, and it feels like the milk is fresh coming from glass bottles that they reuse as opposed to single-use plastic,” says SWHS senior Violet Waniewski.
To deliver convenience with a conscience and “significantly reduce plastic and food waste”, the business knew the milk round had to be “accessible to masses,” as specified by their website.
Consumers needed a simple service that adopted technology, rather than shying away from it. With the new age becoming filled with digital pay and technology, they knew they had to do something about it, they started their business paying online with cards only and soon skyrocketed to a 375 million dollar Milk Business.
