Auditions for South Windsor High School’s fall production, Legally Blonde, were held from 2-4pm on Wednesday and Thursday, September 4th and 5th in the SWHS auditorium.
The first day was focused on auditioning dialogues, while the second day was focused on dance numbers. Actors spent time memorizing choreography as a whole cast, as well as being broken into small groups to perform different scenes and numbers.
The play follows the protagonist Elle Woods, who goes from sorority girl to Harvard student to impress her ex-boyfriend with her intelligence and hopefully get back with him. There are multiple side characters that help – and hinder – Elle along the way.
Senior Rowan Pott, who played Jack in last year’s musical production, Into The Woods, has high hopes for this musical.
“It’s a larger cast than I think we’ve ever had before, so I’m hoping that we can form a larger community and uplift each other,” Pott said. “Theater at this school, especially, is a very tight-knit group.”
Pott noted that there were a few new faces at auditions this year, which they were happy to see not only because they’re hoping to grow the theater community, but because of the size of Legally Blonde’s cast.
Pott is confident that South Windsor is up for that challenge, though.
Junior Riley Frasier, who played Cinderella’s stepmother in Into the Woods, is also excited about the production, but foresees the choreography being a little difficult to put together.
“Yeah, it’s a little nerve-wracking,” Frasier said. “But once you just say, ok, done with the nerves, I’m just going to have fun, everything just goes so much more smoothly than when you sit there and worry about it.”
This was how Frasier dealt with stress during auditions.
Overall, cast members are excited to take on the new challenge of Legally Blonde and will start rehearsals this week.
Callbacks were Friday, September 6th and a cast list was sent out on September 9th. The play is scheduled to take place November 15th and 16th.
