On Wednesday, September 4th, Veterans Memorial Park opened up their pools for the dogs of South Windsor to take a final swim of the season before the start of autumn.
South Windsor Parks and Recreation has hosted the Doggy Dip for years. This is a chance for our furry friends to socialize and participate in a puppy pool party. The event started at 6:00 pm and ended at 7:30 pm that day. The dogs jump, swim, play, and chase each other throughout the water.
Many canine owners had not been to this event until this year, making this one of the more populated years for the Doggy Dip.
“We believe in socializing dogs. We have two dogs, and I opened up a dog daycare business last year because I believe so strongly in socializing dogs” says Hounds Town Hartford owner Bob LeBlanc.
It’s always important to allow your dog the opportunity to play with other dogs. Immersing them in the company of others gives your puppy the chance to be more athletic, have less anxiety outside the home, and could reduce dogs to be prone to aggressive behavior.
While the dogs were paddling in the water, Julie’s Barks and Bubbles was handing out tennis balls for them to play with, along with information about her business. Julie Turkington owns a dog daycare and grooming business in South Windsor. Turkington has been a part of the Doggy Dip event for 3 years now and enjoys socializing with the dogs and allowing her dogs to splash and play.
“I do grooming, I do baths, trim the nails, and clean ears and hair cuts,” says Turkington.
She is an advocate for dog care and encourages others to take care of their fur babies properly, and effectively. Dog care is just as important as dog socialization, both a priority for many at the Doggy Dip.
As the human swimming season has come to a close, the dogs have their last hoorah with their friends and can spend the rest of the year playing on land until next September rolls around.
