As a new school year begins, the South Windsor Girls Soccer team is excited to kick off their season.
The girls have been preparing throughout the summer through the use of strength and conditioning sessions, summer league games, and their annual pre-season camp. The team appreciates these resources, as it prepares them for their upcoming season.
“It allows us to work together before the season starts and is a good way to get in shape and get ready for tryouts,” stated senior, Ava Hapkiewicz.
The girls traveled to Berlin to participate in the Berlin Jamboree during the previous weekend. They played two 40-minute games against East Lyme and Cheshire. The team was able to defeat East Lyme in their first game with a final score of 2-1. As for the game against Cheshire, they fought hard but came up short with a final score of 1-2.
Junior, Sierra Farabello, scored her first goal of the season against the Cheshire team. Furthermore, the 2 goals by junior Arianna Rosario and freshman Kylah Wood were a product of the team’s effort against East Lyme.
Despite the Jamboree being the first time playing as a team, the chemistry among the girls was visible.
“I’m excited for this season and to be a part of the team. I think we are going to do well and be successful,” Wood told The Prowl.
This year, the South Windsor Girls Soccer team welcomes their new head coach, Ryan Kaufman. Although this is Kaufman’s first time holding the position of a Varsity level coach at the high school, he was the former boy’s soccer Junior Varsity coach for several years. Kaufman hopes to use his new position to expand and grow the girl’s soccer program.
Although this time of the year is happy for most, it is also the beginning of the end for the team’s seniors, as this will be their last year as a Lady Bobcat.
“Being a senior feels exciting but also sad knowing it is my last year playing soccer with people I’ve been playing with for so many years,” commented senior Cassie Polansky. “This season I hope the team lives up to its potential and that we will make some great memories.”
The Lady Bobcats are ready for the start of their official season. Go support the girls’s soccer team at their first home game against E.O. Smith on Tuesday, September 3rd.
