After a big win against East Catholic in the semifinals, the South Windsor High School girls lacrosse team took on Tolland in the CCC finals Wednesday, May 22nd. The Bobcats showed up to the Tolland turf ready to take on the tough competition in the game that would determine who was the champion of the CCC East division.
The Lady Bobcats came home with a well earned 12-5 victory over Tolland, earning them a new title and a trophy. Goals from Jillian Yelle, Elise Suffish, Lili Ficaro, Hailey Deptula, Riley Boyle and Mady Syme led to the domination of the Bobcats offense. However, an outstanding offensive performance wasn’t the only key factor in their win, senior goalie and captain Catherine Downes was a brick wall in goal for the ‘Cats.
“We really came together for that game. It was a lot of fun and the energy was great,” junior captain Hailey Deptula said. “We shared the ball, had great transitions, and overall controlled the game with possession.”
This isn’t the only stop on the Bobcat’s road to victory as they look to take down Farmington on Tuesday May 28th in their first game of the state tournament. The Bobcats hope to continue their success in the first round of the playoffs by continuing to play at the same level that led them to becoming CCC East champions.
“It was so exciting especially because girls lacrosse hasn’t been in CCC’s or won in a while. Also, it was rewarding after the work our team has been putting in this season, with a new coach and few returning varsity players,” senior captain Kailtin Hardy commented.
As the end of the season approaches, the Bobcats hope to continue working together as a team and close out the season with the same fire that they began with.
