The Golf team has had a rough start to the season due to some tough competition, but coming off of a win on Thursday, April 25th against Manchester, they are optimistic moving forward.
The South Windsor High School boys Golf team shot their best round of the year in this match and continues to improve as the season continues.
“Our record doesn’t show it quite yet, but I can tell the team is trending in the right direction. As of now, we are still on the cut line of making states as a team, but I feel confident in our team to get us to our big goal this season,” senior Will Carty told The Prowl. Carty has been on the team since junior year.
The team’s first win facing Manchester was at their home course. Carty shot a 41 during the match against Manchester.
Despite taking a tough loss to a very strong Tolland team,South Windsor put up their best team result of the season by scoring 181, led by Salafi shooting a 45.
The team is led by seniors Nick Salafia, Will Carty and Daniel Sweeney; however, junior Ethan Kowaleski and sophomore Landon Ayotte are regulars on game days.
Salafia was tied for the 19th best high school golfer in Connecticut last year by the PGA National High School Golf Association.
“Our team really wants to make it back to the state championship. We were able to qualify last year, but we want to go back again this year and try to improve from last year,” Salafia commented. “As long as we have a strong finish to our season, I think we will be able to achieve our goals.”
Overall, the team hasn’t had the start they hoped for, it seems that they are turning it around and are moving toward improving their season and hopefully making a playoff run.
The team will be back in action today when they take on the back-to-back state champions the RHAM Raptors.
