Bus Driver Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Tuesday of April in the US. It is a day for students to express gratitude towards their bus drivers for their services. This day was established by the California State Assembly in 2009.
In places around the world, similar days on different dates are celebrated, all relating to Bus Driver Appreciation Day.
Parents and students celebrate this day in various ways, such as making posters and buying them small gifts like flowers or snacks.
On Friday, April 19, the Interact Club hosted a volunteer event dedicated to Bus Driver Appreciation Day. At the event, club members stayed after school to make cards for the bus drivers.
“As leaders of the Interact Club, we think this is a really great opportunity to show our appreciation to our bus drivers and give back to them. They’ve helped our community out and us as high schoolers, and we are very grateful for that,” Angelese Santiago told The Prowl.
The Interact Volunteers also felt that the card-making activity was an effective way to give thanks.
“I volunteered for the Bus Driver Appreciation day because I want all the bus drivers to feel appreciated. I wanted to say thank you for what they do every single day, no matter the circumstances or the weather,” freshman Aanya Shah explained.
The cards were distributed to the bus drivers on Tuesday, April 23, by the Interact Club officers, before classes. Students had the option to wear yellow on that day to celebrate the important day.
Even the students who didn’t volunteer felt grateful towards their bus drivers.
“I like how my bus driver always greets everyone and even if I’m running late, she waits for me.” Freshman Arnish De commented.
Overall, Tuesday was a successful day for those who wanted to show their respect to their bus drivers and for the bus drivers who were recognized for their efforts.
