Newly hired principal of South Windsor High School, Mr. Joseph LeRoy.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 16th, South Windsor families awoke to an email containing cardinal information regarding the future of South Windsor High School’s leadership: Mr. Joseph LeRoy has been appointed principal of South Windsor High School, effective July 1st, 2024.

The high school’s current principal, Mr. Frank Rizzuto, has chosen to step down from his role as principal and enter a new role within the district. Rizzuto, who has spent nearly all of his career within the South Windsor district, will continue to have a positive impact on the school community as the Social Studies Curriculum Specialist.

Throughout the past few months, questions have been raised within the community regarding the new principal, many of which was answered on Tuesday, April 16th, in an email distributed by the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kate Carter.

Joseph LeRoy is a successful individual who displays the qualities of a promising new principal. He has served within the educational profession for 19 years, maintaining an unwavering commitment to the students throughout the entirety of his career.

I have a wealth of experience from ages K-12, this allows me to look at things from a lens that encompasses the needs of a 5-year-old to an 18-year-old.

“I am a lifetime champion for kids and continuously make decisions that are in the best interest of my students,” LeRoy told The Prowl.

He is the current principal of Mayberry Elementary School in East Hartford and has served in this position for the past 6 years. Prior to this position, he was an assistant principal at East Hartford High School for 5 years.

LeRoy has held such positions as athletic director, department supervisor, physical education and health teacher. He also coaches sports in town.

“I have a wealth of experience from ages K-12, this allows me to look at things from a lens that encompasses the needs of a 5-year-old to an 18-year-old,” LeRoy told The Prowl.

After an intensive search process, LeRoy was selected as the top candidate for the role of South Windsor High School’s principal.

LeRoy’s experience with children, and passion for teaching, will make him an excellent addition to the South Windsor community, in which he and his family already reside.

“Being someone who does live in town, and has been local for a long time, I understand the traditions and legacy of South Windsor High School,” LeRoy commented.

LeRoy is motivated by creating opportunities for success for his students, short and long term, and aims to bring this motivation to SWHS during his time as principal. To ensure success, LeRoy expressed his desire to create a comfortable learning environment for all students within South Windsor High School.

“It is vital to create relationships and trust within the school because building a community that resembles family will ensure that students can thrive in their school environment and become truly successful,” LeRoy expressed.

The district is delighted to welcome South Windsor High School’s new principal, Mr. Joseph LeRoy.

“I use the words family and team frequently when discussing the future of SWHS because we are a family and will continue to operate as a team,” LeRoy said.
