Los Angeles therapist, Amie Harwick, 38, ex-fiance to “The Price is Right” game show host, Drew Carey, died hours after an alleged attack in her Hollywood house on Saturday, February 15th. Harwick was found unresponsive on the ground beneath a balcony, sustaining major injuries consistent with a fall. One arrest has been made in connection to her death.

In a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, Harwick was pronounced dead hours after an attack in her home at 1:15 a.m on Saturday. Police were called to the scene after neighbors reported hearing screams coming from her house. In a statement to police, Harwick’s roommate claimed that Harwick was being “assaulted inside of her residence.” Upon arrival, police found Harwick’s unresponsive and on the ground beneath the third story balcony. “The victim was gravely injured. She suffered significant injuries consistent with a fall,” says LAPD in a statement to KTLA. Shortly after being found, Harwick was transported to a local hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department where she was pronounced dead by doctors. Her cause of death was determined as blunt force injuries to the head and torso, according to the medical examiner. Officials also said that sufficient evidence was found to prove a forced entry, followed by possible evidence of a struggle.

Harwick’s ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, 41, of  Playa del Rey, California, was arrested outside his home at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to court documents, Harwick filed for two restraining orders against Pursehouse on multiple accounts of domestic violence once in 2011 and again in 2012. Although, both restraining orders had expired at the time of her murder. LA Sheriff’s inmate information center records stated that Pursehouse was released from jail on Tuesday at 10:25 p.m. after posting his 2 million dollar bond. Greg Risling, spokesman from LA County District Attorney’s Office, said that no charges against Pursehouse have been filed. Pursehouse will appear in court on March 10th.

Drew Carey, Harwick’s ex-fiance and TV star, broke the silence about her death in a statement to Fox News. “Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” Carey states. “She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loves Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.” Carey also endorsed an effort to reform domestic violence laws inspired by Harwick’s death. An online petition for it has attracted more than 33,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning.
