On January 5th, the 77th annual Golden Globes took place. Some of the winners decided to take their speeches to another level and talk about the tragedies happening in Australia. Australia is experiencing bushfires causing the beautiful land to burn. At the Golden Globes, winners took it into their own hands to talk about the difficult event.

When the award for best actor in a limited series or TV movie was announced, Russell Crowe ended up winning the award. Sadly, Crowe was not able to be at the event because of the bushfires happening in Australia. The presenters of the award were Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Aniston gave a heartwarming speech in honor of Crowe’s absence.

During Aniston’s speech for Crowe, she stated that Crowe was “at home in Australia, protecting his family from the devastating bushfires.” Aniston during this time showed great passion for the topic and made sure to stay serious while giving the speech. She also told the crowd that, “We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy, and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way, we all have a future. Thank you.”

As Crowe was not the only actor who paid tributes towards the wildfires, best actress winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge told everyone in the audience and watching that she would be auctioning the suit she wore and be giving the benefits to relief in Australia. She stated that she was “really proud” to be apart of this “amazing plan” to help the wildfires in Australia.

Actress Cate Blanchett joined in on supporting Australia by giving a shout out to the firefighters working in Australia. She stated, “I would just like to amplify that by saying I wanted to do a special callout to the volunteer firefighters who have been at the center of battling the climate disaster that is facing Australia,”

To add, singers Lizzo and P!nk have helped raise millions of dollars to the cause and help those who were affected by the fires and to assist the firefighters that have been helping those in need.
