Swifts New Hit

On Friday, April 26th, Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie released a new single title “Me!”. The single was accompanied by a bright and colorful music video that features a variety different scenes that Swift and Urie dance through. This single is the most recent work of Swift since she released “Redemption” in 2017. Urie’s last release was “Pray for the Wicked” with his band Panic! At the Disco.

Both artists have shared in the past their liking for the other. Urie said in 2014 that he would like to work with Swift saying “she’s super talented, really smart songwriter, really fun. She seems like really fun to work with.” Urie has wanted to work with Swift for years and finally got the chance to collaborate with her. Swift has always been a big fan of Urie as well. Swift shares that “When I hear ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ by Panic! At The Disco, I’m transported back to being sixteen and driving down the streets of Hendersonville, Tennessee, with my best friend Abigail, euphorically screaming the lyrics.” That is a song off of an early album of Urie with his band, “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.”

After hearing the song for the first time, there was a varied mix of responses. Senior, Kellie Sartoris, shares that she was “disappointed in the song. I was expecting something more mature from Taylor Swift since she is 30. I think that the whole song was childish and the spelling part is really weird. I think that she should have chosen a different song to release as her single since ‘Me!’ wasn’t well received.” This opinion on the single was refuted by junior, Braden Migneault, who liked the single. Migneault said “this song was refreshing because it is very upbeat and positive. I also am a long time fan of both Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie so the combination of the two made me happy.”

The single is the first of an entire album that will be released in the near future but the exact date has not been announced yet. Swift has been dropping hints to the title of the album but few people have guessed the title thus far.
