Following Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie about Queen and Freddie Mercury’s life, comes another film about a hit, iconic sensation even mentioned as a star name in Bohemian Rhapsody, Elton John.

Titled “Rocketman” after one of his most well known songs, the film stars Taron Egerton as Elton. Ironically, Taron Egerton and Elton John were actually in the Kingsman movies together. The trailer shows Egerton in some of Elton John’s most iconic looks of the 70’s and 80’s, including a sparkly baseball costume and of course, the huge glasses. The movie will show Elton’s life as a musical prodigy from when he was young, and the “uncensored” life he led being famous and exploring all kinds of different things, similar to how uncensored Bohemian Rhapsody was.

One thing many have been commenting about from the trailer is that Elton John isn’t actually doing the singing, but instead the actor who plays him. While Taron Egerton is a great singer, and even sang in the animated movie Sing, many are afraid it might ruin the film for them. Fans would have preferred to hear Elton John sing, like they did for some of Bohemian Rhapsody with Freddie Mercury.

For many, Elton John has a very unique voice and as someone so iconic, fans are upset to not actually hear him naturally. Senior, Nick Palladino, fan of Elton John, said, “When they made that movie about Miles Davis the trumpet player, Miles Ahead, the drumming was still audio him and had more of his feel. I would like to have heard Elton John be the one singing for this too, so it’s authentic.”

Nate Curameng, Senior, is excited for the release of the movie. He was a fan of Taron Egerton, saying, “I think he’s a great singer so it won’t be too bad hearing him instead of Elton sing throughout the movie. I don’t mind.”

Between the two opinions, it’s still a highly anticipated movie getting people excited, hoping for more similar movies like this and Bohemian Rhapsody.

The movie has a planned release of May 31, 2019.
