The South Windsor Soccer Club proudly hosted their 14th annual South Windsor Fall Classic Soccer Tournament at Rye Street Park on the weekend of October 25 and 26. The girls’ games were on Saturday, while the boys played on Sunday. This tournament ran all day with games starting at 9:00 am and ending at 5:15 pm.
The many participating teams were all Travel U9-U11. Some teams even came from out of state for the tournament. Over 100 teams were drawn in over the past few years.
The coach of the U11 South Windsor girls, Jolene Piscetello, enjoys this tournament for her players.
“I hope they take away an experience of playing teams they otherwise may not have the opportunity to do so because they are from farther away or outside of their league,” Piscetello told The Prowl.
The teams played on the 10 fields on Rye Street in a Round-Robin style tournament. This means every team plays every other team at least once. A win is 3 points, a tie is 1 point, and a shut-out is 1 point. At the end of the tournament, the team with the most points wins.
No matter the points, each team got 4 sportsmanship awards for their participation. These were given out to a coach or player on the opposing team who displayed good sportsmanship, recognizing not only the skill of the teams, but also their sincerity.
Aside from the playing on the field, each team could set up their tent and decorate according to the theme. This year, the theme was Tropical Luau where teams wore leis, used bright colors, and had many tiki decorations.

This addition of fun to the tournament helps with a festive atmosphere and gives the children a chance to celebrate their spirit of the game. It’s also a fun way for the players to bond and take their minds off of the competition. Coach Piscetello’s team truly outshined with their tent.
“Our team had a great day bonding as a team and really got into the Luau theme,” Piscetello said.
Between the exciting games and festive tents, this year’s Fall Classic offered something for everyone to enjoy. It was a weekend full of teamwork, sportsmanships, and community spirit which reminded everyone why the tournament has become such a beloved South Windsor Soccer tradition.
