On Friday, October 24th, the South Windsor High School gym was transformed into a dazzling venue of color, light and music. This is the night the school hosted their annual homecoming dance, welcoming students from all grades for a night of music, dancing, and school pride.
“The dance was such a fun way to bring everyone together and bring up school spirit,” senior *****@*****************ls.org","type":"person"}”>Phoebe Ferrentino said. “Everyone was in such a good mood and the energy was high.”
The homecoming dance served as a grand finale to a week of spirited events. Each day of the week there was a themed spirit day. Twin day on Tuesday, Pink out on Wednesday, Color wars on Thursday, and Bobcat spirit on Friday.
On Thursday, October 23rd, the SWHS had their homecoming pep-rally. Which for the first time, was held on the football field/track.
The cheerleaders performed a routine with the football team. Students and teachers competed in a series of games and everyone in the stands cheered and participated.
Later that day, the homecoming football game brought the whole school together as the South Windsor Bobcats took on Bristol Center. With the marching band in the stands, the cheerleaders leading chants, and the crowd cheering. Everyone was showing their support. The Bobcats took home the win with a score of 27-24.
When Friday night arrived, volunteers and the student council had worked hard to turn the gym into something magical. There was a dance floor and DJ set up in the gym, and snacks and games in the cafe.
Excitement had reached its peak. For freshmen it’s the first dance, to the seniors it’s the last.
The dance floor stayed full for nearly the entire night, as students danced, posed for pictures, and enjoyed the freedom of a night dedicated to fun.
The students erupted when classics like the “Cha Cha slide”, and “Party in the U.S.A” played, everyone dancing, jumping and singing to the songs.
Between songs, students gather around the snack tables where water, cookies, and chip snacks were provided. The teacher/admin chaperones moved through the crowd, offering smiles and compliments, while still making sure the event runs smoothly.
“Homecoming was amazing, magical, joyful, and memorable. I am glad that I got to experience it,” sophomore, Sophie Donnelly said.
As the final songs played and the lights began to fade, students gathered their belongings and gradually made their way out of the school, still laughing and talking about the night’s events.
For many, the dance was a break from routine, a few hours to unwind and spend time with friends.
While the decorations and music will fade, the memories made throughout the night will last a lifetime.
