Saturday April 28th, the annual White House Correspondents Dinner commenced and the day after, people were ranting and/or raving about the events that took place.
“Watching a wife and mother be humiliated on national television for her looks is deplorable. I have experienced insults about my appearance from the president. All women have a duty to unite when these attacks happen and the WHCA owes Sarah an apology,” tweeted news reporter Mika Brzezinski.
Comedian Michelle Wolf took the mic at this year’s dinner and her speech had a very controversial twist, mainly directed at the President, his administration and quite frankly anyone in the political field. Wolf also roasted individuals who were not far from her at the podium where she stood – Sarah Huckabee Sanders being one of these people. Many people were astonished because of how harsh Wolf really was. However, some of the things she said, although low blows, were objective and had truth behind them.
“He has helped you sell your papers and your books and your TV. You helped create this monster and now you are profiting from him,” exclaimed Wolf.
She makes a statement that is very true in that, the media and Trump operate in a vicious cycle in which they help one another , if you can even go as far as saying that. But the confidence that Wolf displayed was very interesting in that she knew what she was saying, and also did not speak to please the crowd rather to address controversial topics that have been ignored for a long time. I will say that he roasts were excessive and that some of the jokes were shallow and things I could never see myself saying, but some who has the guts to, in today’s society, sadly should say them. I would like to express sympathy to Sanders tho because Wolf addressing another woman’s weight, style, and appearance does not seem like something the world is concerned about, or even people who were watching the program. Michele Wolf has a new Netflix series coming out and I would be interested to see how well that does after her performance at the dinner.
