South Windsor is a town known for its vibrant community and is also a home for thriving high school tennis players who have consistently showcased talent, dedication and sportsmanship.
At the helm of the Bobcats’ tennis team is SWHS science teacher and head coach Mr. Tyler. With supportive teammates always helping each other up and being there for each other, the team has consistently performed well in their competitions and matches.
“I’m really excited for this season, especially because our seniors were freshmen when I first started coaching here,” Coach Tyler said when asked about his thoughts on the upcoming season. “It’s been great to watch them grow, and now they bring experience and leadership to the team.”
Coach Tyler has helped refine players skills through his years of experience playing tennis his entire life.
The Bobcats have several new players eager to step up and contribute. This year, the team will be experimenting with different lineup combinations, a little longer than last season to find the best fit, making things more interesting and competitive.
Junior Jerry Zhu, captain of the team, has high hopes for the new players of the team
“There’s a pretty strong group of freshmen coming that can hopefully fill the gaps left by the graduating seniors from last year,” Zhu said.
The boys will face some hard matchups this year such as Hall and Tolland. The team finished last year with a respectable 11-6 record. These boys have been practicing during the off season with a piercing commitment to strive and get better so they could hopefully bring some trophies home at the end of the season.
Some teams aim for playoffs, some others aim for the championship, but the Bobcats are aiming to be the best.
The first game for the ‘Cats boys tennis team is at home against Hall on Monday, April 7, where the team will look to get off on the right foot for the 2025 season.
