The South Windsor Community Center organized two fundraising events aimed to support the creation of a new café at the facility. These events, which combine entertainment, food and opportunities for community involvement, attracted a broad range of participants from the local area.
On Tuesday, September 24, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, the Grill Party FUNdraiser, took place at the South Windsor Community Center. Attendees enjoyed a variety of grilled foods, including hotdogs, hamburgers and kielbasa, along with fresh salads and corn on the cob. Mocktails were also made available.
In addition to food, there were games and prizes throughout the event. At 1:00 pm, The “After All” Duo, a highly regarded band known for their inspirational music and skilled performances, performed live music. Tickets for the event were priced at $20, and participants were encouraged to register in advance.
“Attending this fundraiser is not only a great experience, but you’re also helping the community at the same time!” SWHS junior Siddharthan Muralidharan said.
The second event, the Rock-A-Thon FUNdraiser was held on Thursday, September 26, from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm. This 12-hour-long event invited participants to sit in rocking chairs for a set period of time and seek sponsorships from friends, family and neighbors. Participants raised money based on how long they could stay in the rocking chairs. Additionally, the funds raised contributed directly to the new café project.
“These fundraisers were also a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a great cause that will enhance the community center experience for everyone,” Director of Human Services for the South Windsor Community Center, Andrea Confrancesco said. “We are excited to embark on the fundraising for the café. The intention of the café is to provide a drop-in space for older adults to enjoy a cup of coffee or light food without having to sign up in advance, but more importantly, to build connections.”
Confrancesco highlighted how important this new space will be for community center members.
“As a rule most people don’t go to a restaurant alone. This is a safe place for people to enjoy the company of others and a friendship can be forged. Both events delivered an unforgettable experience, whether attendees were there to enjoy the music, food, or just relax in a rocking chair,” Confrancesco explained
