The South Windsor High School Field Hockey team took on their first home game on September 4th at 3:45 with a commanding victory against Windsor!
South Windsor is coming from a 7-9-1 season, ranked 55 in Connecticut and 776 nationally. Windsor was 0-13-2 last year, ranked 80 in Connecticut and 1153 nationally.
Last year the Bobcats finished their last game with a loss against Darren High School with a score of 0-9. So the team was determined to make a comeback this season, and they did just that.
The Lady Bobcats finished the game with a score of 4-0, the scoring was led by junior Izabel Dzubin, with a total of two goals scored. Dzubin’s scores were followed by senior Hailey Deptula, and junior Resse Pellerin, who both contributed to the victory. Junior Vanessa Liegl helped the team with two assists.
Due to a change in CIAC policy for high school sports, the field hockey team had multiple senior-lead practices over the summer. These practices allowed for the time to bond and create a supportive environment. The team also made sure that they focused on effective communication in order to bond and improve performance.
Right before this game senior Avery Vencus was able to share her thoughts and feelings.
“A little nervous because this would be my first time on varsity, but overall excited because I haven’t played in a while,” Vencus explained.
Senior and captain of the Field Hockey team, Paige Lambert, was outstanding with three crucial saves that shut out the Windsor offense.
“They did such an incredible job I honestly didn’t have to make many decisions while in goal,” Lambert said.
The Field Hockey team will be facing stronger opponents in the future, but the captains have trust that the team will be very successful for the rest of the season.
You can catch the Lady Bobcats On September 10th 2:35 when they face off against Southington at Southington High School.
